Improve Writing Skills with Quotes on Giving

By Lily Iatridis  November 12, 2015
_ EMAIL GivingWith Thanksgiving on the horizon, this month our writing prompts focus on the theme of giving.

But rather than prompting kids with a question, try something a little different.

Invite kids to interpret quotes!

(I’ve got a whole list of them at the bottom of this article.)

Quote interpretations require deeper critical thinking, and kids get exposure to the thoughts and ideas of famous people, past and present.

Even though all the quotes in this email are about giving, they don’t all necessarily say the same thing.

They’re open to interpretation!

How to Interpret a Quote

1) Explain what the quote means.
2) Take a stand on the quote. Do you agree or disagree with it?
3) How does it connect to your life?
4) How may it connect to the lives of others?

Pick a quote to interpret every few days, or share the list with your kids and let them pick a few!

Enjoy!
