March Madness Fun in Your Homeschool

By Lily Iatridis  March 9, 2017

March Madness is here! Are you ready?

Visit the NCAA site here to get in on the excitement!

At this point, U.S. college basketball fans are starting to fill in their brackets and organize basketball watching parties.

As for me, I’m a Duke fan, but don’t unsubscribe if you root for a rival!

Here are some resources and activities for March Madness Fun -- and learning -- in your homeschool:

1) First, click here to watch a fun video of Stomp making basketball music with the Harlem Globetrotters.

2) Hold a  March Madness battle of the books. It's always a popular activity this time of year. Kids nominate their favorite books to compete against each another and vote for the winners to move up to the next bracket.

This is an excellent activity to get kids reading and thinking critically about all the books they’ve read. Which ones are better than others, and why?

For more detailed instructions on how to set it up, visit this School Library Journal article here.

3) Read a book or two with a basketball theme. Here’s a reading list of basketball books for kids ages 4 and up from pragmaticmom.com.

4) Last but not least, as our children get emotional about game results, it’s always a good idea to review the rules of good sportsmanship. A Modern Day Fairy Tale blog offers a lovely lesson on the subject titled, “What does the Bible Say About Sportsmanship?” with free printables here.

Enjoy!
