Top 4 Ways to Stop Homeschool Burnout

By Lily Iatridis  February 19, 2015

Burnout Pinnable

When you're the primary teacher, caregiver or even breadwinner for your family, how can you NOT get burned out?

Burnout is normal! But here's the thing:

If you’re the lead teacher in your kids’ education, your attitude, motivation, and energy level has a huge impact on theirs.

Never underestimate that!

That's why you’ve got to take care of yourself -- not just for you, but for the kids too.

You've got to find a way to keep burnout under control. Here are my top 4 ways to avoid it:

1) Schedule non-negotiable relaxation time.

Commit to spending periods of time daily or weekly for fun with the kids or without them. Also, set a quitting time for yourself every evening and stick to it, whether you're done with the chores or not. The laundry can wait.

2) Get your ya-yas out with physical activity.

High intensity exercise will do wonders for you and your mental outlook, because it not only gets you fit, but it makes your To Do list stop whirling around inside your head for a few minutes. If you don't have time for a workout, get outside with the kids and run a few laps around the house!

3) Get a good night’s sleep.

You need your rest more than you think. Make it a priority!

4) When the burnout comes on anyway, take a vacation.

Take a break from school, chores, and the grind of the daily routine. Hey, you've earned it!

Let us know what you do to stop burnout!
