A total break from school for too long can be too much of a good thing. This is especially true when it comes to writing practice.

You don’t want your kids’ skills to slide, but it's still summer! Nobody’s ready to take on a formal writing project yet.

Instead, give your kids the practice they need by focusing on unstructured or free writing. Free writing is just that — writing freely without attention to structure or grammar. Journaling is an example.

When they free write, kids practice creative written expression. It's one of the steps in our Essay Rockstar program.

It’s a practice that helps kids get confident about sharing their thoughts and ideas with others.
