2 Steps to Teaching Success

By Lily Iatridis  June 19, 2015

BLOG- Mom working with little kids“Today was a big failure.”

Was it?

Regularly, kids don't respond to a lesson or a project the way you expect, but that doesn’t make it a failure.

Remember the hundreds of experiments Thomas Edison made before success with the light bulb?

Teaching is like that. You have to experiment a lot before you start get it right. A LOT.

Not only that, but often, those “failed” lessons only need to be tweaked a little to become successes.

You'd be surprised!

If you journal about your teaching, your expertise will develop all the more quickly.

You can journal in your lesson planner or in a separate notebook.

But when you journal, be sure to do these two things:

1) Take down short but specific notes on what worked and what didn't that very same day.

Clear and specific information is much more useful than vague memories.

2) At a quiet time when you're at your creative best, an go back and brainstorm solutions.

Start with small changes, and build from there.

Remember, all you need is a few short but specific notes beside your lessons in your planner. Those will prove invaluable to you and to your kids!
