Thanksgiving Writing Prompts and Printables for Your Homeschool

By Lily Iatridis  November 17, 2016

Thanksgiving week is upon us, and it's time for some light holiday writing!

Below are a number of Thanksgiving journal prompts from Journal Buddies, AND if you really want to take it easy, visit our favorite resource for free Thanksgiving printables like the one to the right. (Link below.)

When It Comes to Journaling

To keep the journaling enjoyable for your kids, set one requirement that’s important to their learning, then give them as much choice as you can.

For example, you can let them pick their prompt and free write (write without paragraph structure), but set a length requirement or ask them to use a few new vocabulary words in their answer.

The full Journal Buddies article has 78 Thanksgiving writing prompts, but here’s a short list of favorites:

1. The best Thanksgiving ever was when…
2. What if the turkey got burned?
3. When I think about Thanksgiving, I think of…
4. Five things I am thankful to have that I could never live without
5. How do people show their thankfulness to me?
6. If you could have any guest at Thanksgiving, who would it be?
7. How do I show my thanks to others?
8. What would it be like to be a turkey?
9. If I could go back in time to the first Thanksgiving, I would bring…
10. Things I can do to show my gratitude for the earth.

When You Need to Make It REALLY Light

As parents, we all know how excited and distracted our kids get at holiday time. We have to keep schooling activities short, and take lots of breaks.

K12 Reader offers about a dozen attractive and free Thanksgiving printables like the one shown above, and they don’t require you to give them your email address. Click here to grab a few for your kids to use next week.

Enjoy!
