Write Like a Film Critic: The Force Awakens

By Lily Iatridis  December 17, 2015
_EMAIL The Force Awakens The new Star Wars movie opens tomorrow.

Have you bought your tickets yet?

True, Star Wars may not be everyone’s cup of tea. But if some of your family members are fans, they’re going to have A LOT to discuss after they see this film.

That makes a review of the new Star Wars movie a perfect subject for critical thinking and writing practice!

Give your family's Star Wars fans the opportunity to play the movie critic by doing the following activities with them after the film:

  • Evaluate the plot, characters and special effects
  • Develop arguments to persuade people to see the film or not
  • Support their opinions with detail from the film
  • Compare and contrast this film with past Star Wars movies
  • Predict the action in Episode VIII, the next Star Wars movie that’s bound to follow!

Encourage your kids to discuss and articulate their ideas fully!

Then, ask your kids to follow up discussions in writing by organizing their critique on a graphic organizer from our End Blank Page Terror Forever free ebook. If you have time during this busy season, have them transfer their organized ideas into essay form afterward.

Remember, these activities can be used to critique any film, not just Star Wars.

Enjoy your weekend!
