How to Write Well with Transitions

By Lily Iatridis  October 22, 2015

EMAIL- Fall foliageIt’s a time of transition and there’s lots to write about!

Changes in season, changes in weather, plant life, animal life, foods, weather, activities and festivals — there’s lots of interesting things to observe, do, and write about this time of year.

Using transitions in writing is important too.

Do your kids know how?

When kids change from one topic to another, either between paragraphs or within them, it’s important to make a smooth transition between ideas with a few words or a phrase.

If they don’t, their writing sounds choppy, and they lose the reader’s attention.

But it’s hard to think of a different transition every time! You can only use “on the other hand” so much.

That’s why we created a glossary of transitions for our Essay Rock Star students so they don't use the same two or three over and over again.
